May is a great month in our business offering lots of marketing opportunities. The trivia winner this month is guerilla pizza guy Jay Jerrier of Il Cane Rosso, currently operating in the Dallas area, in front of x10 Cellars on Wednesday, and Chocolate Angel Too, Thursday - Saturday. He correctly identified President Grover Cleveland's daughter Ruth as the namesake of the "Baby Ruth" candy bar. Who's next?
The big event in May is Mother's Day! If I only had a dollar for every Mother's Day brunch I set up and cooked omelets for, I'd be a wealthy man! We've included some suggestions on a complete brunch menu in this Prime News that can provide some ideas and fresh appraoches to this annual classic family gathering.
Cinco de Mayo will bring in tons of business for some market segments and offers lots of menu inspiration for everyone. On the inspiration side throw in National BBQ, Asparagus, Egg, Hamburger, Salad, Salsa, Strawberry, Emu Month and Hoagie, Chipotle, Roast Leg of Lamb, Shrimp, Buttermilk Biscuit, Escargot, and Coq Au Van Day among others!
If you have some extra time for culinary adventure as America enters the outdoor festival season, visit the 19th annual Picklefest in Atkins, Arkansas or the Annual Texas Steak Cookoff in Hico, Texas. For those who travel afar, think about the 21st Annual Maui Onion Festival in - you guessed it - Maui, Hawaii. Or the James Beard Foundation Awards in New York, or the Stilton Cheese Rolling festivities in Stilton, England. Check out the calendar for details, recipes and ideas.
In other Prime News stories, Winn Meat Company will be using Imperial Wagyu Beef as our sole Wagyu supplier and Eden Farms Certified Berkshire Pork as our sole Berkshire pork provider. We have forged strong relationships with these incredible producers and look forward to bringing their products to our customers. Also, I have added links to the Dallas and Ft. Worth Convention Center web sites so you can see what groups are coming to town.
May finishes up with Memorial Day weekend. Please keep our brave men and women, and their families, who fought and died for our freedom in your thoughts and prayers.
- Jamie
